Memorials & ashes
A gentle farewell on the water
A calm, private way to say goodbye to someone you love, on the quiet of the River Avon.
Aboard The Rita Ellen, families can gather to scatter a loved one’s ashes on the River Avon, which flows on to the Severn and out to the sea. You might scatter flowers and small candle boats, share a few quiet prayers or words, and take a moment together.
Ashes can be scattered in a peaceful spot upstream, away from buildings and people, or near the weir by Holy Trinity church. Ceremonies usually last from ninety minutes to three hours, with tea, coffee, sandwiches or a cream tea afterwards if you would like.
We look after families of all faiths, and have welcomed many Hindu and Sikh families in particular. Everything is handled with care, at your pace, exactly as you wish.
